Science of Learning - combining cognitive, psychology, neuroscience, and education to study how people acquire, process, store, and retrieve information.Hinge task - When you start a unit with an unfamiliar task - think DMIC. Comes after the 'hook'. Can be "Ido, We do, You do." Reveals what the kids know/partially know/do not know, plus levels of understanding and reasoning. When launching a task - take the numbers out so children give you their full attention and don't race off to try and solve the problem.
The CPA ApproachWe need to bring in concrete materials. We can do this with older kids, rather than move them 'back' to learning experiences in previous years which we might have done in the past.
HERO assessment reporting - "Proficient means the child can do What/How/Why" HERO takes goals from the Practices, with 1-2 goals from the Knowledge section. A good model to monitor understanding -
